Beauty and the Beast Level I Freebie Video Lesson: Paragraph House Outline of One Character
In this video, I teach a lesson from Beauty and the Beast, Level I. (Print your book from here.) This is for first through fourth graders. It is a one paragraph project (Extension/Advanced Students: two paragraphs) from outlining to writing to revising to final copy. It is broken down into “three lessons/three days” of video content with homework assignments in between. If a parent/teacher can watch the first day’s video with the student and help him get accustomed to highlighting and sticky-noting his homework, that will be helpful. Near the end of the video, the student is introduced to the Checklist Challenge for revising/editing their paragraph(s). Mowli Level II Freebie Video Lesson: Using Writing Boxes
Welcome to another free writing lesson and teaching video! This one, for upper elementary students, is from the monthly writing book called Write On, Mowgli! Level I. This one week lesson is called Jungle Book Writing Boxes. Your student will work on creating sentences from given material, adding descriptive elements to their sentences, and then putting those sentences together into amazing paragraphs. The video teaching is broken down into three lessons of approximately 30 minutes each to be spread out over a week. The Writing Boxes, which are included in many of the Write On and Write for a Month Levels I and II books, are tremendous tools for helping students write from a source in their own words and use describers to make sentences more interesting. Then, they take learning one step further as students put all of their created sentences together into paragraphs. Fun lessons and fun topics. Win-win!
Peter Pan Level III Freebie Video Lesson: Essay Writing
Welcome to another free writing lesson and teaching video! This one,
junior high students, is from the monthly writing book called /Write On,
Peter Pan, Level III. /This two week lesson is called Three Favorite
Peter Pan Characters Essay.
Like all of the writing books I have created, this project contains the
skills needed in order to write the project contained in it. It has a
quality sample essay to learn the skills from, and it has all of the
steps laid out for the student. The video is broken down into six
“lessons” in which the student follows along in their book (highlighters
in hand) and learns exactly how to write this three paragraph essay with
an opening thesis statement and a closing thesis statement reloaded.
Additionally, the student is taught beginning quotation use and an
introduction to the Checklist Challenge.
Mowgli Level IV Freebie Video Lesson: Story Writing
Welcome to another free writing lesson and teaching video! This one, for upper junior high through high school students, is from the monthly writing book called Write On, Mowgli, Level IV. This one week lesson is called The Very Short Story: Predator and Prey.
Like all of the writing books I have created, this project contains the skills needed in order to write the project contained in it. It has a quality sample story to learn the skills from, and it has all of the steps laid out for the student. The video is broken down into four “lessons” in which the student follows along in their book (highlighters in hand) and learns exactly how to write a short story with the elements of story writing from setting, to obstacles, to resolution.
It also teaches other stylistic skills that a student needs to complete this project, including strong verb use vs. being/linking verbs (and a memory tool for being/linking verbs), describing nature, synonym use for main characters, and sequencing words and phrases. The student is taught an introduction to the Checklist Challenge (CC). From pre-writing skill learning, to sample dissection, to outlining, writing, Checklist Challenge, and Final Copy.
